It Was Always There
September 28, 2026
For decades, I thought I knew which one I was. I was the analytical one. Finance, strategy, numbers. I was good at it and I liked it, and that felt like a complete answer.
Friends told me otherwise, more than once. You're more creative than you think you are. I never believed them. I filed it under kindness rather than observation.
Then I started Atelier Bloem, and something switched on. Not gradually. It felt like a door I did not know was in the room. Choosing colour, composition, light, deciding how something should feel before deciding how it should work. It was not a skill I acquired. It was something that had been sitting there, unused, waiting for the right kind of work to ask for it.
Every arrangement that leaves this atelier starts there. Not with a formula, but with a decision about how a room should feel.
And then I looked at my daughter. She is ten, and she is extraordinarily creative. For years my husband and I would look at each other and ask, half joking, where does she get it from. I know the answer now. It was never a mystery. It was just dormant in me, and nobody had asked it to show up.
Creativity is not a trait you either have or you don't. It's a capacity that needs activating. Mine needed a business that demanded it. My daughter's never had to wait.
If someone once told you that you were the practical one, the logical one, the not-creative one, it is worth testing.
Creativity does not arrive. It activates.
